You can remove the "Select Category" or "Select Location" dropdown list from your calendar view by doing to following:

Login to Calendar as Administrator > Go to Admin Menu -> under Calendar Settings > Calendar Options > Under View Controls > check "hide category selection list" or check "hide location selection list" > Save
